What to expect
The Cold Case Unit of Derby Constabulary feels like a morgue to DI Damen Brook. But in disgrace and recently back from suspension, his boss thinks it's the safest place for him.
But Brook isn't going down without a fight and when he uncovers a pattern in a series of murders that date back to 1963, he is forced to dig deeper. How could a killer stay undetected for so long? Could it be luck or are more sinister forces at work?
Applying his instincts and razor sharp intelligence, Brook delves deep into the past of both suspects and colleagues unsure where the hunt will lead him. What he does know for sure is that a significant date is approaching fast and the killer may be about to strike again...

Critics Review
-
'A gripping serial killer story with an exceptional depth of humanity, Deity delves into the darkest corners of human motivation. DI Damen Brook is one of the most memorable characters in recent British crime fiction. The city of Derby finally has a copper to match anything Edinburgh or Oxford can produce! Dark and twisted, but DI Brook has an intense emotional core'

'I've read all of Steven Dunne's Damon Brook novels and have enjoyed all three, but DEITY is the best (so far!) It's very rare that I find a book that I just can't stop reading , but DEITY was devoured in two sessions, with only the need to sleep getting in the way! I'm really coming to care about DI Brook, his dark past and broken present, troubled relationships and a life teetering on the edge of total collapse. I don't know if it's Steven Dunne's eye for local detail, or understanding of young people that really brings DEITY to life, but I can't walk home over the Derwent without checking in the water for bodies, or wondering which of the Drinkers by the Assembly rooms is working undercover! I'm sure, in time Derby will be as linked to DI Brook as Oxford is to Morse, or Edinburgh to Rebus'

'Fast paced and thrilling, crime writing at its best'

'DI Brook has evolved into one of the best and most memorable fictional detectives in what is undoubtedly a crowded market. A truly pulsating story which will leave readers breathless'
