Arnold Bennett

Arnold Bennett (1867–1931) was an English novelist, playwright and essayist who was one of the most successful and prolific writers of the Edwardian era. Born in Hanley, Staffordshire, he is best known for his novels set in the Potteries region, including Anna of the Five Towns and The Old Wives' Tale, which brought working-class life in the English Midlands to vivid literary life. A Great Man, a Frolic is a comic novel that showcases Bennett's lighter touch — his wit, social observation and ability to skewer pretension with affection. Bennett was admired by contemporaries including H.G. Wells and Virginia Woolf. His audiobooks and books offer listeners a window into Edwardian England through one of its sharpest and most entertaining chroniclers.
