C. K. McDonnell

C.K. McDonnell is the pen name of Caimh McDonnell, an Irish author and stand-up comedian whose wildly entertaining novels blend crime fiction, urban fantasy, and laugh-out-loud comedy in a way that is entirely his own. His books are beloved by readers who like their supernatural fiction with a hefty dose of humour and a distinctly Irish sensibility. Born and raised in Limerick, Ireland, McDonnell moved to Manchester and then London, where he built a career in stand-up comedy and comedy writing. He performed on the UK comedy circuit and wrote for television before turning to fiction. Under his own name, Caimh McDonnell, he writes the Dublin Trilogy — a series of comic crime novels set in Dublin featuring the irascible Detective Bunny McGarry. The books, including A Man With One of Those Faces, The Day That Never Comes, and Angels in the Moonlight, are fast-paced, funny, and packed with colourful characters. As C.K. McDonnell, he writes The Stranger Times series — urban fantasy set in Manchester, centred on a peculiar newspaper that reports on supernatural events, staffed by a dysfunctional team of misfits led by a magnificently cantankerous editor. The series, which includes The Stranger Times, This Charming Man, Love Will Tear Us Apart, and more, combines supernatural mystery with sharp comedy and surprisingly touching character development. The series has been a major success with readers who appreciate fiction that refuses to take itself too seriously while still delivering genuine thrills and emotional moments. McDonnell's comedy background is evident in every page — his dialogue is sharp, his characters are vividly drawn, and his plotting is inventive and unpredictable. The audiobook editions of McDonnell's novels are outstanding, with narrators perfectly capturing the comedy, the Irish and Manchester voices, and the supernatural mayhem. His books and audiobooks are essential for anyone who wants to laugh, gasp, and be thoroughly entertained.
