Edward Marston is the pen name of Keith Miles, a prolific British historical mystery writer born in 1940 who has authored over a hundred novels across multiple series. A former chairman of the Crime Writers' Association, he has spent over thirty years crafting detective fiction set in periods ranging from the Norman Conquest to World War I.
Marston is best known for his hugely successful Railway Detective series, set during the Victorian era and featuring Inspector Robert Colbeck, who investigates crimes connected to Britain's expanding railway network. A Christmas Railway Mystery is the fifteenth book in this series, set in December 1860. His other series include the Domesday Books (set in 1086), the Elizabethan Theatre series (featuring playwright Nicholas Bracewell), the Captain Doyle novels, and the Home Front Detective series set during World War I.
His deep knowledge of British history and his ability to create authentic period detail while delivering satisfying mysteries have made him a favourite among fans of historical crime fiction. His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers expertly crafted whodunits that bring past eras vividly to life.
