Ellis Peters was the pen name of Edith Pargeter, a British novelist who created one of crime fiction's most beloved characters — the medieval monk-detective Brother Cadfael. Born in Horsehay, Shropshire, in 1913, she was a prolific novelist who also translated Czech literature and won the Gold Medal of the Czechoslovak Society for Foreign Relations.
A Morbid Taste for Bones is the first Brother Cadfael novel, set in 1137 and following the Welsh Benedictine monk as he investigates a murder during a mission to acquire the bones of a Welsh saint. The series spans twenty novels and three short story collections, all set in Shrewsbury during the civil war between King Stephen and Empress Maud.
Peters died in 1995. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers the finest medieval mystery series ever written — perfectly plotted whodunnits set in a beautifully realised twelfth-century England.
