Georges Simenon (1903–1989) was a Belgian novelist and one of the most prolific writers of the twentieth century, having published nearly 200 novels and over 150 novellas. He is best known as the creator of Inspector Maigret, the pipe-smoking Parisian detective whose cases have captivated readers worldwide since the 1930s. Simenon's Maigret novels are celebrated for their atmospheric depictions of Paris, their psychological depth, and their compassionate exploration of human nature. Beyond the Maigret series, Simenon also wrote a significant body of literary fiction exploring dark themes of obsession, guilt, and fate. His books and audiobooks remain enormously popular, with new generations of readers and listeners discovering his masterful storytelling.
