Giorgio Vasari

Giorgio Vasari was a sixteenth-century Italian painter, architect, and writer, born in Arezzo in 1511. He is best known for his Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, first published in 1550, which is considered the foundation of art historical writing. Volume 1 covers artists from Cimabue to the early Renaissance masters. Vasari's biographical approach — blending anecdote, criticism, and historical narrative — established the template for how we write about artists to this day. The audiobook makes these foundational art historical texts accessible to modern listeners.
