In 2002, Masterton added crime fiction to his repertoire with A Terrible Beauty (republished as White Bones), introducing Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire of the Irish Garda Sรญochรกna. The Katie Maguire series became hugely popular, with White Bones selling a hundred thousand ebook copies in its first month.
