Jill Murphy

Jill Murphy (1949–2021) was a beloved British author and illustrator best known for two enduring children's series: The Worst Witch, about a hapless young witch at a magical academy, and the Large Family books, about a family of elephants navigating the hilarious chaos of everyday life. Murphy wrote and illustrated The Worst Witch when she was just eighteen, and the series went on to inspire multiple television adaptations. Her work is characterised by its warmth, humour, and understanding of children's lives. A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch continues the misadventures of the delightfully accident-prone Mildred Hubble. Her audiobooks and books remain cherished by young listeners and readers.
