Max Hastings is one of Britain's most distinguished military historians and journalists, a former editor of the Daily Telegraph and the Evening Standard whose comprehensive, vivid histories of warfare have sold millions of copies. Born in London in 1945, he studied at University College Oxford and began his career as a war correspondent, famously being the first journalist to enter Port Stanley during the Falklands War.
Hastings has published over thirty books on military history, including Bomber Command, Overlord, Armageddon, Nemesis, Vietnam, and The Secret War. Chastise: The Dambusters Story 1943 is a detailed account of the famous Dambusters raid, combining strategic analysis with the personal stories of the aircrews. His writing is distinguished by its ability to combine top-down strategic analysis with ground-level human experience, and by his willingness to challenge comfortable myths about British military performance.
He was knighted in 2002 for services to journalism. His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers military history at its most authoritative and compelling — war writing that never forgets that battles are fought by real people.
