Olivia Manning was a British novelist and travel writer best known for The Balkan Trilogy and The Levant Trilogy, together known as Fortunes of War. Based on her own wartime experiences, these six novels follow a young couple across Europe and the Middle East during World War II. The Great Fortune, available as an audiobook and book, is the first in the series. Manning's acute observation and richly atmospheric writing have earned her recognition as one of the finest British novelists of the twentieth century.
