Robert Muchamore

Robert Muchamore is a British author best known for the CHERUB series, one of the most popular and bestselling children's and young adult book series of the twenty-first century. His books have sold millions of copies worldwide and have turned reluctant readers into avid ones with their fast-paced plots, relatable characters, and refusal to talk down to young audiences. Born in Tufnell Park, London in 1972, Muchamore worked as a private investigator before turning to writing. The idea for CHERUB came from his observation that teenagers were ideally suited to undercover work — old enough to be capable, young enough to be unsuspected. The CHERUB series, beginning with The Recruit (2004), follows a group of teenage agents working for a secret division of British intelligence. The novels are action-packed, morally complex, and grounded in realistic scenarios involving terrorism, organised crime, drug trafficking, and environmental activism. The series ran to seventeen novels and was followed by the spin-off Henderson's Boys series, set during the Second World War, and the Rock War series about teenage musicians. Arctic Zoo and other titles have expanded his range while maintaining the propulsive storytelling his readers expect. Muchamore's genius is writing for young people without patronising them. His characters deal with real danger, make genuine moral choices, and face consequences. The violence is honest without being gratuitous, and the emotional lives of his characters are treated with respect. Muchamore has sold over fifteen million books worldwide, and the CHERUB series regularly appears on lists of the most borrowed and most stolen library books in Britain — which tells you everything about its appeal. The audiobook editions of Muchamore's series are hugely popular with young listeners and adults alike. His books and audiobooks are essential for young readers who want action, adventure, and stories that take them seriously.
