Roisin Maguire is a Northern Irish writer who lives by the sea. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from Queen's University Belfast and has worked as a nightclub bouncer, bus driver, and primary school teacher. She swims every day of the year in the Irish Sea.
Night Swimmers is her debut novel, set in a Northern Irish coastal village during the first Covid lockdown in spring 2020. It follows Grace, a woman resentful of tourists on her beach, and Evan, a distraught husband who arrives to stay in her Airbnb and gets trapped by lockdown. The novel has been praised for its beautiful writing and its wise, compassionate portrayal of human connection in strange times.
Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers a beautifully written debut about finding unexpected connection — a novel full of wisdom, warmth, and the wild Irish sea.
