Sue Townsend was a British novelist, playwright, and humorist best known as the creator of Adrian Mole — one of the most beloved characters in British comedy fiction. Born in Leicester in 1946, she worked in various jobs before becoming a writer.
Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction follows the hapless diarist through the early 2000s as he navigates the Iraq War, his personal life, and his delusions of grandeur. The Adrian Mole series, beginning with The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4, has sold over twenty million copies and is one of the funniest achievements in British fiction.
Townsend died in 2014. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers one of the funniest characters in British fiction — Adrian Mole's diary is a national treasure of comic writing.
