Timothy Snyder is an American historian and author who is the Levin Professor of History at Yale University, specialising in the history of Central and Eastern Europe, the Holocaust, and modern authoritarianism. He speaks five European languages and reads ten.
Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning examines the Holocaust through a new lens, arguing that the destruction of state institutions was the precondition for mass murder and drawing urgent lessons for the present. Snyder's other major works include Bloodlands, On Tyranny, and The Road to Unfreedom. His writing combines scholarly depth with accessible prose and contemporary urgency.
His audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers essential, brilliantly argued history that illuminates the darkest chapters of the twentieth century — and their relevance to today.
