William S. Burroughs

William S. Burroughs was an American novelist, essayist, and spoken word performer who is one of the most influential and transgressive writers of the twentieth century. A central figure of the Beat Generation alongside Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, Burroughs's experimental, hallucinatory fiction — including Naked Lunch, Junky, and The Soft Machine — pushed the boundaries of literary form and content. And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks, co-written with Jack Kerouac, is a fictionalised account of a real murder within their circle. Burroughs's audiobooks bring his radical, unsettling vision to listeners, offering encounters with one of American literature's most uncompromising voices.
