Juliet Stevenson

Juliet Stevenson CBE is one of Britain's most revered actresses, renowned for the intellectual depth and emotional fearlessness of her performances across theatre, film, and television. Born in Kelvedon, Essex, she trained at RADA and became one of the defining performers of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1980s. Stevenson is best known on screen for her BAFTA-nominated performance in Truly, Madly, Deeply, Anthony Minghella's 1991 film in which she played a woman visited by her dead partner's ghost. The performance — raw, funny, and devastatingly truthful — made her a household name. Her other film credits include Bend It Like Beckham, Mona Lisa Smile, Being Julia, and Departure. On stage, Stevenson has performed virtually every major classical role, winning an Olivier Award for Death and the Maiden and earning acclaim for her performances in plays by Beckett, Ibsen, Chekhov, and contemporary playwrights. She is widely considered one of the finest stage actresses of her generation. As an audiobook narrator, Stevenson is exceptional. Her voice is one of the most beautiful in British acting — warm, precise, and capable of expressing the finest emotional gradations. She brings the intelligence and commitment of a classical actress to every narration, and her performances have the quality of theatre rather than mere reading. She has narrated numerous literary fiction and classic titles. Stevenson was appointed CBE in 1999 for services to drama. For listeners who value narration that treats every word with respect and brings genuine artistry to the recording booth, Juliet Stevenson is among the very best in the business.
