What to expect
Prolific writer Max Evans produced a wide-ranging body of work representing several genres. From among his numerous publications, Evans selected personal favorites for this collection, which spans most of his writing career. In addition to an essay about a maverick film director— "Sam Peckinpah: A Very Personal Remembrance"— this collection includes three short novels
One Eyed Sky
The Mare
Old Bum
and nine short stories:
"Big Shad's Bridge"
"A Man Who Never Missed"
" The Call"
" Blizzard"
"The Ultimate Giver"
"Sky of Gold"
"The Wooden Cave"
"The Far Cry"
"Don't Kill My Dog"
Through them all runs a common thread: the love and understanding that Evans had for the West and its peoples and his ability to convey that understanding with humor and compassion.
