What to expect
This is the story behind the greatest manhunt in the history of Las Vegas …
In 1972, The Night Stalker took America by storm, becoming the highest-rated TV movie at the time and spawning a second movie and a cult series, all starring Darren McGavin. The story of a blood-sucking psycho on the loose in Sin City started with a then-unpublished novel by Las Vegas reporter Jeff Rice.
Now, after years of being out of print, Monstrous Books presents this restored version of the book that launched one of the most beloved and influential characters in TV history.
The book also features a foreword by David Dastmalchian (Late Night With the Devil, Count Crowley), an afterword by Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia), and a profile on Jeff Rice by Mark Dawidziak (The Kolchak Companion).
Critics Review
-
“Kolchak is as much a part of my horror-writer DNA as Frankenstein’s monster, Stephen King, or The Twilight Zone. Monstrous Books is doing us a great service by presenting this fully restored original manuscript the way Kolchak creator Jeff Rice intended. If you’ve never heard of Kolchak, or if you’ve seen the TV series but never read the original story behind it, you need this one!”
Christopher Golden, New York Times bestselling author
-
“Carl Kolchak isn’t brave. He does brave things despite being scared out of his wits. He’s also a monster hunter who’s more interesting than his prey. Carl Kolchak is my spirit animal.”
Dana Gould, creator of Stan Against Evil
-
“Kolchak and the world created by Jeff Rice has been such a huge inspiration to the person and storyteller that I have become. From my comic, Count Crowley, to the characters, films and series I love creating, there is always a glow of the ghost of our loveable pain-in-the-neck reporter. Grateful that James Aquilone and the Monstrous Books team are doing such amazing work in their effort to bring this fantastic narrative to people around the world.”
David Dastmalchian, star of Late With the Devil and creator of Count Crowley
-
“Kolchak: The Night Stalker was one of the early inspirations in my writing career. The opportunity to be a part of Kolchak’s 50th anniversary was truly an honor. And the beautiful collection of stories James Aquilone assembled is the perfect statement of appreciation for this iconic character.”
Rodney Barnes, creator of Killadelphia
