Quiet Hints to Growing Preachers

Synopsis

Quiet Hints to Growing Preachers is a book of advice by Charles E. Jefferson. As an experienced clergyman he could write short but sharp, smart and still relevant remarks, like: "If a minister says he loves God, and in his heart slights or despises his people, he is not only a liar but a murderer of the spiritual life of his parish." "Honorable men will not toy with churches." "Popularity is the most fearful of all tests." "The clergyman who is able to trudge bravely through the years, filling the months with quiet honest work, pressing himself close upon his people and holding his people and himself close to the heart of Christ may cause little stir in the world but he will make an impression which will be felt in heaven." "Envy is a sin of weakness, and whoever is guilty of it confesses his inferiority." "Sheep like to be fed. They never resist. When repeatedly fed by the same shepherd they will follow him whithersoever he leads them."
