Overall I enjoyed the book until the final part about Evelyn. That part was quite tedious and just a tad boring. The rest of the characters were very good and well developed. Maybe didn't need quite so much detail in all the bedroom antics either. I am sure we, as readers, are able to use our imaginations!

I think this is one of the best narrated audiobooks I have listened to.I really felt that I knew all the characters well through the voices used for each and was able to picture each of them in detail simply through the voices. This really brought the book to life. It is an affirming story about people whose relationships weave in and out amongst themselves, set partly in Docklands London and also Florence. I really enjoyed it. I'm not give the story itself give stars because whilst it was heartwarming which is a great relief at the moment, it isn't the best storyline. But I would certainly highly recommend a listen

I have just finished this and would go to the start again if I didn’t have a book club meeting in 5 minutes. This book is many stories in one. It made me cry 3 times. Characterisation is so rich and convincing. The attention to detail makes me forget I am listening to a fiction. It is warm and lush. Full of poetry, philosophy, art history, politics, and oh my goodness … food! It is beautifully read.
