A charming, off-beat story with some great characters and wonderful London locations. I’m sure it will make readers long for their own canal boat, and quite possibly - if they don’t already have one - their own talking cat. Conrad is a delight

The plot is reasonably clever although I was ahead of the detective for a lot of the time which is frustrating.
The narrative voice also lets the book down, with far too much emphasis on the monetary value of everything (including the grave site). It all rather undermines the repeated point that the narrator doesn't care about money.Kate-Ems 2026-07-24 -

Good premise but let down by the author pining for the good ole days of casual racism and sexism. Narration of the cat was a bit cringe throughout.
