What to expect
Village newcomer Alex must vanquish a vicious feathered foe to finally feel at home in this madcap caper from comedy genius and bestselling author Jo Simmons.
Alex is not happy that his family are moving to the village of Noggings. He’s even less happy when he discovers that Noggings is under siege from a vicious jackdaw called Graham who has been dive-bombing kids in the school playground and terrorising locals. Surely, it’s only a matter of time before Alex himself is targeted. But can he defend himself against the flapping fiend and learn what’s really behind these angry avian attacks?
Critics Review
-
"A brilliantly funny adventure of finding your community, having sense of belonging, and dealing with changes in your life … Barrington Stoke have come up trumps with this deliciously funny tale full of mischief." — The School Librarian
"A fantastically funny, warm-hearted and empathetic adventure about overcoming fears, belonging and acceptance … a deliciously delightful tale of mischief and mayhem, flying high with heart and humour." – Book Craic
"This book was non-stop fun. The giggle-a-minute variety where the author hooks you in right from the first page and you are taken on a hilarious ride of a madcap adventure in this silly story. And yet even with all the comedy, there are some important messages in this book about loneliness, true friendship, being empathetic and lots of praise for the cleverness of jackdaws." – An Eaton Readit
“A great read to help children see that sometimes they need to give a change in situation time, or look at things differently because the cause of their worries is not as big or important as they first thought it was." – Mrs Sydney's Famous World's Smallest Library, blog
"Alex may get his red cape from Mrs Flummery, but in actual fact he does have a superpower – kindness. By extending friendship (and spaghetti hoops), reserving judgment and giving Graham a chance like the one he was given by his new friend Callie, Alex shows the rest of the village a better way to behave." – Bentley Heath Primary School Book Club
