What to expect
Some secrets are better left buried. And someone’s willing to kill to keep it that way.
Lt. Kate Gazzara didn’t get where she was by playing it safe. So when the limestone walls in Forrest’s Cave give up their grim secret—a skeleton entombed for over fifty years—she assigns her brilliant loose cannon to the case. Detective Jack North’s methods may be unconventional, but his closure rate is unmatched. Now, she just has to hope his talent for solving impossible cases outweighs his talent for trouble. But Jack never expected to unravel a conspiracy that killed his grandparents decades ago.
When Detective North teams up with Dr. Amelia Croft, their investigation reveals a chilling truth: Lookout Mountain’s caves are more than just a tourist attraction. They’re a carefully chosen tomb for countless victims, guarded by someone who won’t hesitate to kill again to keep their deadly secret.
As more bodies surface, North and Croft find themselves navigating a labyrinth of corruption that spans generations. His grandfather, Detective Lieutenant Charlie North, dug too deep and they killed him. His grandmother, Lab Tech Martha North, saw too much and they killed her too. Now those same forces want him silenced, and they’ll stop at nothing to keep their secrets.
