Following the breakdown of her marriage, Theo has bought a tumbledown cottage on the banks of the river Tamar which divides Cornwall and Devon. The peace and tranquillity of Boatman’s Cottage, nestled by the water, is just what she needs to heal.

The pace was good. There were a few too many "coincidences" in the plot to properly engage me. I picked the book as it is set in the area that I live in. I'm not sure I fully felt the local scenery was pictured as effectively as it could have been. It was a bit too Mills and Boon for my taste but it would make a good light holiday read or listen. The narrator was fine other than the fact that she swapped between ZED and ZEE when producing the letter Z which really annoyed me. This should be sorted out before the audio is released

This book is devastatingly good. I am so sad to have finished it. It’s an amazing story of love and loss in the context of the First World War with a thread connecting it to the modern day. Centred around a cottage in the Tamar Valley in Cornwall, it is so well researched, it is difficult to separate truth from fiction. It has consumed me rather than the other way round. I can’t wait to enjoy more from this author, but I need a few days to recover from this one! 💜
