A departure from the Thursday Murder Club but some passing references to a few familiar names keep this new story situated in the same world. And the same gentle handling of difficult emotions like grief and being scared means it’s as good a story too. The narrator was (as expected) excellent too. I look forward to more!

Richard Osman’s first book outside his Thursday Murder Club is confident and assured, written in his trademark good humoured and gentle style which makes even global crime bosses and hitmen seem relatable, and everyone is sanguine and friendly even when they’re trying to kill each other.
There’s a touch more glamour than his original series, with an ageless best selling female author who lives on her own private island and has a voracious appetite for men, her bodyguard, an A List actor with more looks than brains, and a variety of other characters in exotic locations around the world. But at the core is retired cop Steve, whose life revolves around the weekly pub quiz in a quiet English village and finding people’s lost dogs, being dragged into the jet setting lifestyle of the rich, famous and criminal by threats to the life of his daughter in law.
It’s remarkable how Osman makes all his characters feel like people you’d really like to meet - even the antagonists. It’s a world which feels real but somehow created with such affection that you’re left wishing you could live there, even with the danger of being killed at any moment.sebcollins 2024-10-05 -

Great new book from Richard Osman, pacy and enjoyable with the witty tone that’s become so familiar from the Thursday Murder Club series. I didn’t enjoy the narration at all to start with, but warmed to it slowly.

I didn’t want the book to end! The humour in the writing had me giggling inside with a grin on my face for every clever observation of personality traits. The narration added to the enjoyment immensely, as Nicola fell naturally into the voice of each character effortlessly. Her delivery of emotion was spectacular.

Just finished listening to this book whilst on holiday. Was very much looking forward to it. However I was disappointed could be that they were new characters and different to the ones in the Thursday Murder Club. But felt that there was little back ground info on them. Yes it was an enjoyable listen, and yes I'll get the next one when ever that comes out.

Very enjoyable. A change from the author's previous series, certainly, but by the end, the characters will have grown on you and you'll be looking forward to the next adventure.
