Dr Michael Mosley was a British science journalist, television presenter, and author whose popularisation of diet, health, and wellbeing science made him one of the most trusted and influential health communicators in the world.
Born in Calcutta, India in 1957, Mosley studied at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School in London and qualified as a doctor before joining the BBC as a science journalist. He became a prolific and award-winning television presenter, creating and presenting programmes including Trust Me, I'm a Doctor, The Truth About Exercise, and numerous health documentaries.
Mosley popularised the 5:2 diet — intermittent fasting involving eating normally for five days and restricting calories for two — through The Fast Diet (2013), which became an international bestseller and a global dietary phenomenon. The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet, The Fast 800, The Clever Guts Diet, and Fast Asleep continue his mission to make evidence-based health advice accessible to everyone.
His approach combined self-experimentation, rigorous engagement with scientific research, and an ability to communicate complex medical information clearly and engagingly. He frequently used himself as a guinea pig, undergoing tests and treatments on camera to demonstrate their effects.
Mosley died on 5 June 2024 while on holiday on the Greek island of Symi.
The audiobook editions of Mosley's books are clear, engaging, and practical. His books and audiobooks remain essential for anyone interested in diet, health, intermittent fasting, and evidence-based approaches to wellbeing.
